J. Cole's latest album KOD may be his most divisive album yet. Throughout the project, Cole takes shots at the growing drug culture in hip-hop. He questions the use of drugs ranging from lean and marijuana to pills and alcohol and their effect on psychological growth. Cole uses pain as his main argument, and throughout the album, he reminds listeners that there is a great deal of pain in this life, and choosing how to deal with this pain can affect you in many ways. While many rappers and hip-hop fans who support drug culture have found some offense with the project, many others are hailing it as a conceptual masterpiece.
Trippie Redd, a talented lyricist who gets grouped with other young and up and comers just because he has colorful dreads and face tattoos, is a fan of Cole's new project. Redd's sound is very different from the rappers he gets grouped with, such as Lil Pump or Lil Yatchy, and it can be discerned that he was heavily influenced by old school hip-hop legends. In a post to Instagram, Redd showed his love for KOD. "Amazing I love this f**k what anybody gotta say 1400/800," wrote Redd as the caption to a post where Cole's latest video can be seen. "Can you rap like me," responded Cole on the post, referencing Redd's song. Now that's respect.
